About Our Team
Building the next generation of mountain bikers in Murrysville, PA
Our Mission
The Franklin Regional Mountain Bike Team is a youth cycling program for students in the Franklin Regional School District. We provide a supportive, team-based environment where student-athletes develop cycling skills, build fitness, and grow as individuals.
We believe mountain biking teaches more than just how to ride. On the trails, our riders learn perseverance, self-confidence, risk management, and what it means to be part of a team. Whether a rider finishes first or last, they cross the line with the full support of their teammates.
NICA
The National Interscholastic Cycling Association is the governing body for youth mountain bike racing in the United States. With over 40,000 student-athletes across the country, NICA provides a framework for safe, inclusive, and development-focused competition.
NICA's core values — inclusivity, equity, fun, and respect — guide everything we do as a team. Every rider who shows up and gives their best is celebrated.
PICL
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League is the state-level league under NICA. We compete against teams from across Pennsylvania in a series of races each fall season.
Races are held at venues throughout the state, typically on Sundays from September through November. Riders compete in categories based on grade and experience level, so everyone races against similarly skilled riders.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to join?
There is a NICA registration fee and a team fee to cover race entries and supplies. We never turn a rider away due to cost — scholarships and payment plans are available.
Does my child need racing experience?
Not at all. Most of our riders start with zero racing experience. Our coaches work with every skill level.
What kind of bike do they need?
A working mountain bike with gears and hand brakes. It doesn't need to be fancy — we can advise on what works for different budgets.
How often are practices?
Typically 2-3 times per week during the season, with one day on the weekend. Practice locations and times are shared via TeamSnap.
Is it safe?
Safety is our top priority. All coaches are NICA-certified. Helmets are mandatory, and we teach proper trail techniques to minimize risk.
